Topic	The Batman HBO Max spin off TV show to focus on James Gordon

Although a key difference in this case is that it's supposed to be a direct spin-off from The Batman while Gotham was its own thing and its own universe. The key difference is that Gotham's writers figured out nobody wants a show about Gordon solving regular, boring-ass crimes. By season two, they were using full-on Batman villains and doing gloriously stupid shit. To the point that the last season is an adaptation of fucking No-Man's Land. After the Joker blows up various parts of the city, Nyssa al Ghul uses her position as Secretary of Homeland Security to isolate Gotham City, sends in an army platoon headed by a guy that Hugo Strange eventually turns into Bane, kidnaps a baby Batgirl, and then escapes in a submarine built by the Penguin and the Riddler. If this show gets nearly to that level of balls-out, drop-dead, all out fucking idiocy I will watch it every. Single. Week.
