There's talk about wanting to ban chases as well now. Not just car chases, but foot chases as well.

I'd be perfectly fine with that, especially for non-violent and/or low-level crime. Push for bodycams and cameras on cruisers would greatly assist in data collection to help identify fleeing suspects so they can be tracked down later.

Police have way too much put on their shoulders and it's abundantly clear that many of them are undertrained or flat-out incompetent. Maybe training them that "getting the bad guys" is less imperative than maintaining peace and order, public safety, and the health and well-being of those involved in a crime scene is part of the solution.

Not totally on-board with the notion of defunding the police, but one aspect of it I do believe in is the allocation of funds for establishing mental health response and/or social service response. Seems a lot of these altercations involve drugs or alcohol or mental illness and cops are ill-prepared to handle such things.

A professional with a background in psychiatric or practical medicine may be better suited, perhaps with a cop on standby if things get out of hand.

I dunno, I'm just an asshole truck driver so my opinions on matters don't amount to much, but something has to change in this country.
