Because society evolves, its not uncommon for things to become outdated.

The same way everyone thought Ariel was super progressive for a Disney Princess back in 1989, but now people see her for the whiny, entitled brat that she is. >_>

Lola showcased a strong, capable woman but was shackled to the outdated bombshell archetype and wasnt as fleshed out compared to her costars. As time moved on they can keep the strong, capable aspects of the character while adapting it to something that modern audiences will be more receptive to.
