The morality of Joels decision is literally not remotely impacted by the events of TLOU2. Joel killed a shitload of people to save Ellie and prevented a cure from being attempted whether it wouldve worked or not can be debated but was also entirely immaterial to Joels choice. Marlene alone in TLOU1 humanized the Fireflies as we know Ellie liked and trusted her as a friend of her moms.
