The rhetoric around Biden was that he was a compromise, and that to serve better interests he had to be pushed left by continued activist action. The Democratic party had to acknowledge the grassroots support that got Biden elected, and they had to keep making noise to have a chance of being heard.

But once Biden got elected, everyone took it as a win and rested on their laurels. This should be a wake-up call to keep the Democrats accountable for their promises and their fuck ups.

The worst part of all this is that Biden is still the better choice. The one dependable option to get Donald Trump out of office is big on unprecedented strikes on warring nations, and it sucks.

Biden was going to be polarising one way or the other, but the rhetoric was that if people held the Democratic party to account as much as they worked to hold Republicans accountable, Biden would be an acceptable compromise who would hopefully - hopefully - steer a bit further left to keep the progressives happy. Now is the time to put that into practice. If the left can't do that, if they're frozen in place at the thought of targeting "one of our own" over detention centres and bombing Syria, then American politics is well and truly fucked.
