Also, every time Ive bought a gun theyve done some type of background check. It wasnt a three day hold, which it shouldnt be, but they ran my stuff to make sure I havent been charged with certain crimes and that I dont have any mental disorders that would prevent me from buying one. What more would you want?

Automatic Assault weapons, as has already been pointed out, are already illegal. If they really wanted to go after high capacity semi auto rifles, then they would limit magazine size to like four. Thats not going to happen because 30 round mags sell like hot cakes and it accounts tons of tax revenue.

If they really wanted to make life worse for gun owners, they would:
-go after magazine capacity
-force you to register ammo (which some places like DC apparently already do)
-make it to where you cant keep the gun in your house (aka check your gun into and out of the game wardens office to go hunting)

Not ever going to happen in the US because the courts would shoot it down in a New York minute. They will play around banning stuff like bump stocks or tactical scopes, but there are literally too many guns to ever ban them outright and the government would lose way too much money.
