Most states get recommendations on how to avoid a natural disaster in the future and then the power companies and politicians just simply ignore it. It is a fucking racket.
texas is faring worse than most states because the people in charge decided to eschew the united energy infrastructures of the east and west. On top of that, our houses and roads aren't built for this and we're getting floods due to burst pipes and now we are losing water also.

That said, I agree no power during the heat is also terrible. A few years ago I lost my air conditioner for two weeks in texas summer, I wanted to die.
