I'm agreeing with you Zeus but I think the topic is far more shallow than you making it out to be. TC is just going off looks and powers when talking about coolness. Well that's what I graded them on not their relative success or cohesion. It's hard to compete with Kubo on making cool looking characters. Though looks are subjective there's a certain stereotypical cool look and style he really nails. Ressureccion was another layer of cool to add on top their already cool base designs, and that's still not their individual powers yet. So it's like 3 layers of coolness for an Espada. Oda can come up with a lot of cool looks too as much as he does ugly shitty ones. If you did a spread of all 3 groups alongside each other and showed them to non anime fans I doubt the Akatsuki would win in popularity. I was gonna mention Kisame too but he's ugly lol. Though his power and attitude makes him cool. Some characters like him or Kenpachi don't need to be pretty.

Even with just looks and coolness, that kinda favors the Akatsuki though since they have a pretty neat team uniform then their individual designs on top of it (and some have multiple forms and transformations). Plus their powers are relatively diverse.

And appeal of Kisame and Kenpachi is badassery, not beauty pageants =p Them looking cool is more of a draw than them looking handsome. And most of the Espada aren't exactly handsome either. In fact, the cooler Espada are ugly by conventional standards.

As for man on the street interviews, I wouldn't expect the Espada to over well. Their normal outfits are kinda plain and their transformations aren't the kind of thing that most non-anime fans and non-gamers would go for.

it...most definitely, absolutely, does not.

in fact, it does them all worse.

Two strong opinions, both equal in their almost-comical wrongness.
