Yeah, Bach was definitely pretty astounding, and even more astounding is that he was relatively unknown in his time. In one sense I think he did belong in his time, because he really defined the Baroque period, where Mozart later went on to do so with Classical.


Ya, Bach wasn't as well know for reasons, not the least of which is that most of his music was write, 'For the Glory of God.
As where Handel wrote many more pieces that were meant for a wider audience.
On that point though, I read a quote once that said, Bach could have written any part of the Messiah, but Great was the Company was the only song he probably would have.
Also Handel bitched out on an Organ play-off that rumored for a bit.

That didn't stop Bach from showing up Fredrick the Great however with his Musical Offering. ~That's a whole other store.
Not only did Bach define the Baroque period, he blew the doors off it.
