I'd say this was a tragic accident, and the action that needs to be taken is getting the word out that such costumes can defeat pandemic precautionary measures, and not to use them in enclosed environments, not terminating a devoted and caring employee who didn't know something that wasn't common knowledge for anyone else either. Sounds about right. I'm not surprised that the costume would pose an infection hazard, but I also would never have considered it without hearing about an incident like this (which I have not, prior to this topic/article). This is something that needs to be incorporated into infection control guidelines moving forward, but I don't think she should be retroactively punished for what seems to have been a reasonable, innocent mistake. --- This is my signature.
