What if the student just doesn't put in any effort
Depends. A good teacher will try to reach the student and figure out why they aren't trying, and work on a plan to get the student engaged and active in the classroom. A lot of "trouble" students have issues at home or elsewhere in their personal lives that can affect their performance in the classroom. Could be something as simple as they're not getting breakfast or lunch. Could be something like abuse or other instability at home.

There may be "bad" students, but a good teacher will work with them and try to get through to them, get them on a path to success.

Some students are certainly difficult, but imho it's a very small percentage who would be beyond hope
