Why is that so unbelievable? American history textbooks are very heavily White-centric, with token mentions to the Civil Rights movement (and then, only MLK, Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X).

I read my history and social studies books from cover to cover for fun. This is exactly how they were. The history of white men was primary/main history, and everything that involved anyone else was in special boxes off to the side or subsections of wider chapters. If you read those books, you'd think nothing important ever happened in Africa and that China has been mostly irrelevant to world history. There was a rotating list of like 7 black people who were mentioned by name in those books and half of them are who you quoted.

The basic history education I received was garbaje.
