Yup, unstructured - this is a major problem with Metroidvanias in general that many people overlook. This is one of the reasons why Super Metroid feels so much better than the later ones (other than maybe Metroid Prime) and why Salt&Sanctuary (not really a metroidvania but does have a few key movement items) and Hollow Knight feel so much better.
