That just makes the problem worse. The last quarter of the game as well as most of the optional areas that open up late is dominated by water routes. Water routes are generally less interesting to begin with because they tend to always look the same, have fewer options for interesting terrain to explore (they have currents sometimes but that's about it) and are notorious for being the most repetitive in terms of what Pokemon you encounter, both wild and from trainers. The fact that you spend so much time in the late game in the blandest type of route where you often just are moving down an empty blue path with nothing of note gets real old real fast. --- Meow! ...
