I'm guessing it's because Lucas had a vision, that however had degraded significantly once the he got to making the prequel trilogy, and then Disney took over the franchise and replaced the vision with avarice. I mean, a stupid vision is still a vision (although its worth adding that the ST had most of Lucas's ideas for a sequel trilogy, without some of the stupid things like magic force ghosts everywhere that control the world), and I would have liked a sequel trilogy that stuck to the plan instead of throwing everything away after fan backlash for a soulless cash grab.
