You kinda can't just own normal words under normal circumstances. There are limited contexts in which you have use of a word which usually comes down to a trademark thing at times.

I'd understand if it was just used for that. But like normal words should have some leeway. Like how Hello Games had to settle with Sky TV to name their game, "No Man's Sky". Shit like that is weird...

I'm not sure how legitimate something like that is, but companies with lots of money can cause substantial problems for other companies so even when they're in the wrong sometimes it's easier to settle or some shit.

You also have a company that claims to own a lot of the shit belonging to HP Lovecraft despite the fact it's in the common domain and TWO companies (Marvel and DC) claim to own the trademark term "superheroes" (which is a fucking impossibility) which, iirc, was why the show "Heroes" wasn't called "Superheroes" (and, in turn, "No More Heroes" got its name because they had trouble with the show "Heroes", possibly because it had a game out with that name)

I'm going to be honest, I don't really follow half the fucking logic behind a lot of trademark shit and I'm sure companies make crap up as they go along then bully people with lawyers and expensive lawsuits to keep it going.
