people were kinda memeing about it but i actually wonder how nintendo feels about Slippi's infinitely better online compared to Ultimate's. if there's a large-scale tournament basically flaunting its superior online via emulation, you could argue that it might affect their bottom line by pulling people away, no matter how small a number, from their game they currently do profit from.

of course the proper response i'd argue would be that nintendo actually make their online functional to offer a better product, but we all know that won't happen. it's basically the same for all emulation. if nintendo doesn't like it so much, how about releasing your old games and putting more effort into it than guys doing it for fucking free?
I mean, Slippi does have a bit of a unfair advantage since it's usually played on Ethernet connections, which naturally offer a much more stable experience than wifi, but then again, I haven't heard much good about ethernet-wired Switches, either (probably because the vast majority of online players are playing on wifi).

I do wish Nintendo would actually stop BSing around and move into the 21st century when it comes to online. The Switch itself is a number of steps backwards compared to the Wii U, the 3DS, and even the Wii in that regard, and the fact that we have to pay for it now is inexcusable with how bad it is.

Unfortunately, as mentioned, Nintendo likely has too many old suits with too much power holding things back.

I often wonder if we are growing as a people... or in fact, regressing.
