It says it wasn't until that time later that someone was said to have heard him confessing he killed the cop. He was arrested right away for the crime. His weapon was at the scene unchambered. A bullet from his gun was in the cop. There was inconsistencies in the court case due to the judge presiding. However, to my knowledge, their newly claimed defense years later was that a mob hitman killed the cop during the fracas. Not the man convicted for killing the cop that was having a physical confrontation with that man's brother over an arrest. The own brother didn't defend him as innocent in the case to my knowledge until 20 years later. There was multiple witnesses that stated he murdered the cop including witness to him standing over the cop and shooting him in the head executing him. Either way, there hasn't been really any compelling evidence beyond conspiracy theories to the innocence from an evidentiary standpoint.
