Losing Depp hurts Fantastic Beasts way more than it would if they lost Rowling who's writing for the movies isn't particularly good or special to begin with. Iirc WB owns full rights to the franchise and doesn't necessarily need her to be involved at all. Her creation has completely outgrown the need for her at this point.
