yeah but they don't actually care because it's not their money they're spending, it's ours, they don't have that pit of fire underneath them like we and companies in the private sector have to fall into if we mess up too much and blow our money

that's why the quality of nationalized services/goods gets better once it's privatized

if it were up to you, would no money would be allocated towards the pursuit of knowledge by publicly funded research?

Because why try to better understand the world unless there's profit to be made
