Participating in this thread has made me realize the two strongest points for not having difficulties.

First off, not every game is made for everyone and if we tried to make every game for everyone, it wouldnt matter what game you played because everything is the same.

Also, Including "difficulties" usually just boils down to editing numbers. Its lazy for the devs and its lazy for the player. When a game becomes easier you can perform very simple actions to accomplish complex tasks, which changes the intended mechanics for the game.

Example: poison flower beds were meant as dangerous terrain obstacles but in easy mode you take a 1/5 of the damage from these so it no longer becomes all that important to avoid them while shooting baddies so you can belligerently ignore them while in combat. Thus; the overall intended experience has changed. Not to mention that is one small cog in the overall hypothetical game. Edit enough numbers and you have near many things being altered.

I think the less amount of different difficulties the more the devs can polish the game and maximize the experience. And a more difficult game forces players to learn mechanics. Take Wallstreet wolf for example, that other poster was very helpful and was ready to give lots of useful info to help make the game easier. But he didnt want that, he just wants an easy mode where you swing the weapon and everything dies. Theres plenty of games like that already, just play those if you arent actually interested in learning about the how the game works.

Again not every game is for everyone.
