This is how white supremacy took hold with some of my family members who were legitimately bereaved in black on white racially motivated attacks. They cannot see anything past their trauma and any way you approach their racist bullshit that doesn't concede to their notion of generalizing all black people as violent perpetrators anxious to victimize whites reinforces their trauma and causes them to double down.

On the other hand, some of them didn't end up like that and I can't really explain it. Two of my sisters were victims of a high profile racially motivated attack and they are not at all racist. In fact, they're the ones who saved me from falling into the racist bullshit from the rest of my family. They're similarly at a loss for how to deal with the others who just can't get it and they have infinitely more insight on the matter than I do.

In the same way that I feel bad for my family members and their inability to let go of their hurt and their hate, I feel bad for this woman and what she went through... but it doesn't excuse their racism and nothing really can.
