There are quite a few character customization options that will start to open up as you progress; don't stress too much about it, basically anything you choose can work, even on higher difficulties.

This is really important! As someone else said, even hard difficulty isn't too bad (although imo the first few chapters can be tough), so don't stress about min-maxing unless it's something that really gets your rocks off. Any build on any character will work just fine, some are just finer than others.

Moreso than any other FE, 3H gives you a lot of room to do whatever. You want to turn that bulky armor dude into a graceful flyer? Have at it. You think it'd be funny if that cute little girl became a ridiculous tank, bofuri style? You can make it happen, it just might not be "efficient."
