You contribute a lot more than just whatever you turn in on paper and you miss out on some of that at work. Its not like youre doing quite as mindless of tasks at that level. Plus you wont be in the environment which makes people more competitive (both the city and the company), has a culture established and fostered by the company, and allows a more free exchange of ideas. The culture in San Francisco is different than say Kansas City. Just hang out at a coffee shop and see what the conversations are about.
