No regular person says we're having spaghetti for dinner and means just spaghetti. Sure you can say with meatballs, but no one actually says spaghetti and sauce. Spaghetti is a normally common term to mean spaghetti and sauce. I mean when you have pancakes do you mean just pancakes or do you just know it means with syrup to? Same as cereal.
