I'd almost be willing to assume that maybe Disney said something to Rian Johnson about minimizing Finn's role to appease the Chinese market, but Johnson DID give him a pretty big presence in the movie. It just happens to be in a terrible side-plot that prety much everyone hates.I initially thought thought, but it doesn't make sense considering how much hype and willingness to give Finn the spotlight in TFA. If they were that afraid a black actor in a prominent role would tank them, they wouldn't have even started him off strong from the get-go. And considering they introduced Rose, a Vietnamese American (which the Chinese would be indifferent to at best, fucking hate at worst) actress in TLJ, the idea that they were pulling on the strings in this casting regard for the Chinese falls flat.
