The fly was a mutant fly and it passed on it's mutation to the Wasp, which became much smarter and developed the ability to interact and use tools (even a smart fly is REALLY dumb).

The wasp realized the futility of it's existence and left the hive to try and find meaning in life. It flew through the city till it came to a nice park, and there it saw something that changed it's life, it saw, a TV. The park happened to have a TV set up for a movie night and the wasp watched as a movie played. It could not understand the words, but the ideas behind the movie, slowly became apparent to the wasp.

The movie appeared to be about time travel and a couple of humans who were using it for some purpose the wasp could not understand. The wasp realized that using time travel it could make changes itself, so, using it's instictive connection to nature, the wasp considered what time was, and how it could manipulate it. It realized that using it's wings to alter the flow of air in a certain way, it could make a portal through time.

The wasp experimented with this ability until eventually it mastered it, then it went back in time to before humans first started to use tools and found wasps in that time period. The wasp then flew from one hive to another, impregnating the female queen wasps, and passing on his genetic mutation, creating a race of super smart wasps, these wasps banded together and wiped out the human race, and eventually dominated the world.
