I would argue that it isn't selfish *OR* altruistic. It just is. Some people just don't want/can't have/ shouldn't have kids for whatever reason. Be it hating the idea of sacrificing that much life force or killing a bloodline, or not resenting your offspring...if a kid isn't wanted, it shouldn't be born. Simple as that. Unless you're half of that equation that brings a child into the world, I don't think you get to have an opinion on whether others do or not.
