Gargoyles, shadow beasts, shark men who are mostly sharks. Aliens that look like huge white preying mantises (this one is Axioms End) So... uh... what is the appeal here? Im always a sucker for good fiction, but I imagine this goes a little deeper than Yeah, I can see the beautiful soul inside this monstrosity... Its very funny to me that the Male reader x Female Monster fiction I see (written by men) always have the monsters look like normal women, but with, like, wings or horns.
