Some people want to carry on their bloodlines etc. For me though, I have always cared for people my whole life, and I like/love making the people I live with lives better. I get joy out of seeing happiness in others and I would have loved to have raised kids, given them a good/safe life and at least one parent who loved them and provided for them. It would have been very fulfilling, given my life more meaning, and I could have hopefully instilled my values in them, so they would go out and make the world a better place, and their kids would eventually do the same. There are many reason to want to have kids, but it's a very personal thing and different for everyone I think. You certainly don't need to feel obligated to do so (even if family tries to push it on you), but it's not something you can just stop wanting or put behind you easily either, at least for many people. --- Tacobot 3000 "Saving the world from not having tacos."
