Topic	I never understood in lord of the rings why middle earth had no rails.

Tolkien claimed he "found" The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings in a book he dug up somewhere, written by a hobbit that lived like 50 thousand years ago or something Gonna need a source on this. Because Tolkien wrote LOTR as a way to give a history to his made up language.
