its not the year 3000 AD. Middle Earth is in the past. Its supposed to be a lost age forgotten by history, of ancient earth. Tolkien claimed he "found" The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings in a book he dug up somewhere, written by a hobbit that lived like 50 thousand years ago or something

Gonna need a source on this. Because Tolkien wrote LOTR as a way to give a history to his made up language. The man was a linguist not a writer.
