Mufasa kind of explains it to Simba when discussing the Circle of Life. Predators eat prey, and prey animals eat plants, which grow from the nutrients supplied to the soil by decomposing bodies. Also, he explains that kings need to not only understand the Circle of Life, but also respect all life within it. This means no senseless killing. Prey animals respect a predator's need to eat and desire to survive, and in that way, don't have a problem being eaten. In turn, predators respect their prey enough to not hunt them for pleasure or to the point of extinction. --- Donald J.
