Now, on to my next question: Why does storm trooper armor seem to be so terrible? One shot always kills them. From what I've seen, not wearing any armor at all might actually provide more defense against laser blasts.

1. There's no point in stealing from the mandalorians since they're already willing to work for the empire for far cheaper than an invasion would cost.

2. The rank & file troops are disposable. Hell depending on who you ask, very senior level officials are disposable. Vader nearly executed Motti on a whim and Palpatine was more than happy to throw Vader under the bus for a chance at getting Luke Skywalker.

3. There's no evidence most of the storm troopers die. They fall down but it's very possible for them to survive being shot by blasters which are less deadly than light sabers and people survive being maimed by light sabers without any armor at all.

4. Even if they did die they're made in a clone factory. Flesh and bone is cheap, as is plasmoid armor. Mandalorian armor is expensive and needs to be recovered if you lose it.
