I actually discovered Alestorm for the first time about two years ago, because a coworker was really into them, and I fuckin dig this band. They're kind of like if you took The Dropkick Murphys and replaced their Celtic theme with a Pirate theme. It's not surprising that the combination pays off so well. The song is just a blast that makes you want to shout, party and, uh... something else I guess? It definitely feels more like a party song than a villain song, but there is certainly villainy to be had in pirate-themed music, namely the song's repeated insistence that they are here to drink your beer and steal your rum at the point of a gun. I just like the absurdity of it all, it's a pirate gang that doesn't want wealth, just alcohol, to the point that they *checks notes* went back in time? Is that right?
