If someone said "Hey man, Bobby called some random black guy the N-word and got his ass kicked at the bar" is more cringey than just saying what he said. It's like the wizarding world always saying you-know-who. Obviously calling someone that word is wrong but quoting it or discussing the merit of the word, i personally don't see a problem with.
