In a show like Game of Thrones or a movie like The Departed, where death is frequent, unglamorous, and unpredictable, a scene with the hero in danger can be incredibly tense. In a James Bond movie, though, there's never even a moment's consideration that he might die, so the fun of a 'tense' scene becomes...how is he going to get out of this one? The more absurd the timing and circumstance, the more fun it can be. It fails when it takes itself too seriously. --- I write Naruto Fanfiction.
