...they were telling people not to go out and buy masks because dumbasses were buying n95 masks, which do shit all if they're not fitted to your face correctly and are absolutely required by medical/hospital staff. PPE was in short supply, and assholes were going out and hoarding it, which was leaving people that actually needed it in the lurch.

so they did a bit of social engineering, telling people that masks weren't needed, though most people seem to have forgotten they were also telling you how to make masks yourself...
