We should concern ourselves with non-trivial risks. And the risk of pregnancy or STDs is far from trivial even using condoms or the pill. When we are talking about bringing a human life into the world or catching an STD those are pretty big stakes, is it really "no need to worry" if it's a 10% chance? We aren't talking about lightning strikes here, these odds are pretty high considering the stakes. I don't think a prudent person like yourself can hand-wave them away. And yet I see it all the time. I'm forced to assume that these otherwise smart people either 1. Know something I don't know (which I continue to ask but seem to get no evidence of) 2.
