I lean left as well, but I think it's important to criticize the parts of the community I see as bad.
I blame a lot of this on a general lack of Internet street smarts. I started browsing websites when my age was a single digit number, registered on a message board when I was eleven (with my mom's permission, of course lol), and was interacting heavily with fandom spaces by the time I was thirteen. I always understood that I needed to keep myself safe and that it was up to me to curate my own Internet experience.
Now anyone with a phone can hop online and feign helplessness with regards to social norms they should have already picked up on in real life. I had to explain to a grown ass woman that she shouldn't use (part) of her real name for her *ahem* spicy adult content.
