It's almost universally considered a great game by most except for the old school AC fans. I consider myself an AC fan(asked for a 360, specifically for AC1 and have played/enjoyed most of the games since) and I personally think it's fantastic. The stealth is crap for the most part. It's only basically used to get sneak attacks in so you can wipe out a enemy's health faster than just fighting them. I used it on the bounty hunters a lot and then just ran and hid so I could sneak attack again before their health recovered. I want to play it again but I think the uplay version has Denuvo on it. They gave it to me for free for being part of the Stadia beta.
