Basically, it has good positive feedback (lets you get "on a role") and gives you just enough flexibility to adapt.

For example, when you get surrounded, you can do a short combo of 2-3 hits, then turn around and do another short combo, rinse repeat, until others start approaching, in which case you can grab the enemy on the opposite side and throw him into the whole group or do a jump attack if you're running out of time.

Plus there are other neat techniques like being able to land after being thrown, which always feels badass if you follow it up by slamming somebody in the face like you meant to do it.
