He tried to grab her but couldn't lift her back up and she fell. He got sued and let go from the company. While I think the company got the lawsuit against themselves and the guy dropped, the fact he got involved was the wrong choice with regards to his duties. Good Samaritan rules tend to protect people acting as private citizens in most situations. This guy got fucked because he was acting as a representative of the company because he was on the clock.
