Toxtricity 04/03/20 4:01:16 AM #29: | Apostle's Maraud Battle! (Colress) Preserved Valkyria -(Apostle's Maraud is my 4th favorite in the contest!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is the type of music I've been most into lately, stuff with complex chords/chord changes with this exact type of energy & maybe especially if on big orchestra instrumentation that feels very full and intense or maybe even EIPC(epic) [[or maybe just tense or mysterious?! many other possible emotions]]. aka "music that sounds like basiscape or literally is basiscape (hi basiscape song)ALWAYS A PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO A BASISCAPE ORIGINAL SOUND TRACKALWAYS A PLEASURE TO L_4-4o4----G__H+_H I love yoshimi kudo video game music composer : ) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! \ :38-1:04 and all the sections like it are both way weirder rhythmically than it seems and way more normal rhythmically than it seems. without drums it's not really possible to follow the NEWS STATION stabs but at :50 once the guitar comes in it becomes more clearly like 12+13+12+11. that technically just adds up to 12/8 or whatever so i didn't really think of it as odd time in my head but those bits are so precisely split apart from each other that thinking of it as 12/16+13/16+12/16+11/16 probably makes more sense than anything else to me to feel it now, though it doesn't feel that way to me without the guitar. without the guitar i naturally feel those string news station stab pattern moment parts completely differently. like 11+14+10+13. I've always loved NEWS STATION music and Hitoshi Sakimoto music has been music I've compared to "news station themes" like 9 separate times so it's kind of funny that even the people who work for Hitoshi Sakimoto's music company(basiscape) known as Yoshimi Kudo also sound just as much like NEWS STATION information song as hitoshi sakimoto. really the whole song is like "ultimate news station fanfare rollercoaster variations" or something really, not just the obvious telegraph morse code part / When the section starting at 1:04 happens I'm reminded of how yoshimi kudo seems to really love to use these exact 7+7+7+9 15 patterns in so much of his music and intersperse them with normal 7+9 4/4 stuff to kinda blur the line between "prog" and "funky normal music", or even just 7+7 7/8 vs 7+9. given that 'ambiguity' is a thing i like, it's right up my alley, really smoothly makes it so there's not that much of a difference between the odd time and the not odd time bits in the section alternating between these groupings. beyond the MATH stuff it's just, funky. feels cool. I like it : ) I like music! \ WHEN i like Yoshimi Kudo's tonality it's among my favorite music that exists, but when i do not like it i really dislike it....luckily all 3 of his songs in the contests (this one and the two 13sentinels ones) are examples where I LOVE it. the best example of a moment where this is exemplified in this track for me is 1:12. very unexpected abrupt chord changes that require really intensely different scales/etc to be played over them for the music to make any sense, it's 'basically' changing key every second but in a much more mysterious and trippy way than other examples of that kind of thing i've talked about this contest like id. still has the same emotionally intense effect on me but rather than "whoa epic" my reaction is like "whoa trippy" and i like that a bit more i think. it feels like i am IN THE SKY in a shmup game doing something dangerous and uncertain. / I LOVE The woodwind layer that jumps onto the melody at 2:31. i like the instrumentation of this overall a ton though i wish i liked the way it was mixed more. like my only complaint about this at all. want to be able to hear the electronic drums backing this a bit better and all of the instruments more clearly separated from each in a way that makes them easier to individually pick out from one another or something. \ I love every section of this piece of music! Every single one makes me EXCITED. Another one of yoshimi kudo's signature things to me is how funky he manages to make "orchestral music" sound like at 4:02 the low strings arejust like whooooa i'm on the dance floor or something having a good time in my business attire(medieval knight armor). 4:15's rhythms aren't like that unusual or anything but something about that pattern the way it's presented here is REALLY INTENSE feeling and makes them feel unpredictable even though they're not. definitely one of my favorite bits / every bit of this is one of my favorite bits what am I saying...it was one of my day 1 noms for a reason! One of my favorite pieces of music I've discovered in the past year and I am glad I got to share it with the board and that enough others seem to appreciate it as much as I do! I hope it wins !!!!!!!!!!)- -[Don't Worry is my 115th favorite in the contest! I like this song because I like electronic sounds that are cool. still never listened to this ost all the way through even though i've tried to a number of times, I love a good chunk that I've heard but this one's not really one that stands out to me, but i appreciate its general style anyways even if it isn't a standout example to me. If I focus on it I hear all the cool tiny synth sounds and whirring electronic drums and crazy production stuff that makes this as cool as it is. XCX's production is just Wow Cool Sounds overload. This is drenched with a certain type of really warpy resonant synth pad that's a sound i loved any time I hear something similar. Really all i have cool to say here is the sounds, the composition's not really my thing at all, but the sounds are cool enough to carry this to at least 115th place for me]- -{dont worry was not bad but only about 3 songs in the contest have a chance at beating apostle's maraud. feel very strongly here!}- ||||| [continued below...] --- time ...
