Are you sure it was a part of your tooth and not tartar? I had huge deposits of tartar on the inside of my bottom teeth but not the outside and flipped out because I thought I broke one of my teeth. I was like 23 at the time and deeply bothered that my rotten chompers were already falling apart. Talked to a dentistry student friend of mine and she was like, "Nah you're just nasty. Brush your damn teeth and go to the dentist."

Good point, could be hardened tartar, especially if it was in between teeth

I think it not hurting is a good sign of this, I've been flossing a lot lately too
