Because a low offer can obviously come off as trying to massive drive the price down. In your example, where you offer $300k for a $350k house, that to me as a hypothetical seller makes me think that the you're ceiling is probably well below my floor.

So why should a seller waste time with an offer that they view insultingingly low, especially if someone else gives them a $340k offer instead?

Because as a buyer I have no fucking clue how low you're willing to go, and I don't want to take even a 1% chance that I'm paying more than necessary.

How is that so hard to understand? Buyers don't want to get screwed.
