I don't know, I feel like there's an air of melancholy to the game, being told by the spirit of the king of hyrule how they lost and told by impa that Link was actually struck down by ganon apparently, for some odd reason.
That being said I'm kinda proud of myself because on a whim I decided to see just how far I could make it to Ganon's Castle and I actually made it inside; was able to outrun the guardians and used up a couple of fairies. Even defeated some of those huge moblins and got some pretty epic gear, so much higher than my current weapons. Unfortunately I ended up in a locked tower where I had to defeat this centaur like beast to continue and he completely pulverized me. All in all a fun first try. I really can't wait to come back in like 50 hours and decimate everything in my path.
You could always go back every once in a while. As you probably know, you can beat the game at any time. But to get the "full ending", there is an additional requirement that'll be fulfilled by doing the main story quests.
