Okay, so he was outed as gay after a psychic read his mind and told him he was gay -- after years of having exclusively female love interests. It's clumsy, it's hamfisted, it's retroactive.

So what?

He's easily the most recognizable gay superhero. How many people have honestly heard of Midnighter and Apollo? Almost everyone has seen Iceman in some form of media or another. X-Men, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Family Guy. Even if you've skipped all of those things, "Iceman" sounds like a hero that would exist. He sounds like a character who should have a following.

Plus, ice is a cool power. Sub-Zero > Scorpion. And the dude would be marketable. You could have Iceman toys right next to Spider-Man and Black Panther. Oh, and if you're wondering about the antagonist of the movie, my first pick would be Pyro. Or maybe they could have Red Skull. It'd be both a nod to the Red Skull episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and a way of trolling homophobes by saying that anyone against being gay is a homophobic Na... agent of Hydra.

The way I look at it, the movie could give him a boyfriend and a female friend who functions as a stand-in for the Anna Paquin version of Rogue. They have chemistry together, but only as friends. This sort of softly de-canonizes the X-Men movies by acknowledging the relationship without acknowledging attraction.

And if the movie is good enough, maybe Disney/Sony could see their way through to having Spider-Man, Iceman, and Firestar in a movie together. Just sayin'.
