A monster spawned on them, why should the monster care what they were talking about before and act accordingly? The issue is that the scene before hand you had someone talking about how his sister killed herself. Going from that to what is essentially lolrandumbx3 humor just isn't going to work unless you know what you're doing which the writers/developers here didn't.
