I guess when you put it that way it does seem similar. I'm trying to remember if other shows did the heroes lose and things look grim thing but can't remember though I'm sure I've seen it before.

But if it is like that then it's probably just inspiration, like how a lot of the show borrows inspiration from other culture's settings, or even other shows like how the play recap episode reminded me of Reboot.
