I feel like she could be a stand-in if they wanted a scene where Leia steps into a space ship that goes boom. How did they write her character out, anyway? I haven't watched Star Wars since Rogue One. They used left over footage of her from TFA in TRoS. This is very spoiler heavy going forward. Luke died in TLJ after using the Force to project himself across the galaxy. Leia did a similar thing in TRoS where she reached out to Kylo Ren from her planet to another moon of Endor, as he was going to win against Rey.
